The 'Big Baby' scene made me feel ill, but I was eating low quality chocolates at the time as well.

(I mentioned YouTube because for some reason my computer currently butchers any sound when being played from DVD. I like to have decent sound even if I'm watching with subs. If you do find an anime you like, get it on DVD if it's available or when it is. Especially Karas. It's purrty.)

P.S. I can't really defend my YouTube watching because I'll end up contradicting myself! Oh the joys of being a poor teenager around Christmas.

I'd also list Earth Maiden Arjuna.
The music is just superb and so are the visuals. Plus the story leaves you with that "must-make-the-world-a-better-place"-feeling.

Ohh and Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo was insanely impressive also.

P.S. If you want a good samurai flick, go and check out Sword of the Stranger. The movie follows a swordsman with no name and a golden-haired assassin as circumstances draw them towards a mysterious young boy.

I also liked Outlaw Star, and I think I've seen all of the episodes back when it aired on Toonami. At least I think it's not on there anymore, I don't even watch TV now.

Haven't seen any new animes, but my old favorites;
- Cowboy Bebop, doesn't really need any introduction
- Samurai Champloo, action, humor and an amazing soundtrack, but the story doesn't really pick up pace until the last couple of episodes.
- Full Metal Panic!, 3 season in this one, it's mainly a mecha anime. Can be hilarious, especially the second season FMP: Fumoffu!
- BECK, based around music, if you're into j-rock you'll enjoy this, also a good manga to go with it.
- FLCL, only 6 episodes, one of the most absurd & hilarious animes ever.
- Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann, haven't seen it all, but from what I've seen it really good.

As for the whole Bleach & Naruto thing, my advice would be to read the manga, possibly watch the anime, but skip anything that isn't in the manga :P

Ghost in the shell movie, 1 and 2 and stand alone complex, both gig's, are gold.

Ninja Scroll is a classic, like the 4 samurai x OVA's.

Animatrix, because it is so much better than the movies.

I also liked street fighter II, but it is in a special category along with X-1999 and Fist of the North Star, which are better if you have played the game/ read the manga. btw X the anime is really good too (by the same team that made bubblegum crisis).

FLCL is so stupid it is officially the greatest thing ever. You have to watch it.

I also used to watch gundam wing a long time ago and mobile suit gundam. Both are really good.

Also read Uzumaki the manga. It is a wierd horror manga about spirals. Very very good.

Naruto - agree
Bleach - the only filler arc I liked was was the Bounto...Bounty... vampire one, because the story is interesting and might as well be a canon.

Too bad last filler sucked badly...

Yep, it was decent unless you're some weird purist who doesn't like their western voices/style/etc mixed in with eastern animation.

Personally, I can't wait for season 2 this winter.

The raw (no subs version) has been out for like two or three weeks but of course, the fansubers would rather oversub something like Toradora than let us enjoy moar Hellsing.

I haven't seen anime in a long time and most series are overhyped by the anime fanbase. I was recommended Elfen lied and people told it was a very good drama, but it totally sucked. I never got into it after that and from what I have heard is the anime industry isn't going to produce anything decent anytime soon.

Now and then, here and there is also one of the better ones that i've seen, it nearly always gets put aside from the popular ones, but it is good.

You should check out other Miyazaki films if you enjoyed Princess Mononoke. Nausicaa is by far my favorite of his, but I also really enjoyed Porco Rossa, Laputa and Kiki's Delivery Service.

You have to check out Death Note. Drop everything and go watch that.

Given that you enjoyed Kenshin (Samurai X on Swim), you really should check out Samurai Champloo. If you like Samurai Champloo's style, you might like Cowboy Bebop.

Start there anyway. Then go to Animenfo and read reviews and find more things that sound interesting to you. There is just to much, and favorites are fairly subjective.
